My Father-in-law loves a good Lemon Drop Martini. I don’t know exactly what had me hankering for one, but I was, and it is time to get back on the cocktail makin’ wagon and bring some class back into Happy Hour at The Tree House. (Instead of just sucking down white wine spritzers, or “Betty Whites” as my fellow new momma and fabulous friend Kristen calls them.)
Brush the cobwebs off your shakers and join me, won’t you?
What you Need:
- 1 1/2 ounces vodka
- 1/2 ounce triple sec
- 1 teaspoon superfine sugar OR simple syrup
- 3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
- Superfine sugar for dipping (or regular – it doesn’t stick quite as nicely, though) – enough to layer a small plate
- Twisted peel of lemon or lemon slice for garnish (optional)
What You Do:
Put the first 4 ingredients into an ice-filled shaker, affix the top securely, and give a good shake (I go until my hands feel icy cold.)
Using either the lemon you squeezed the juice from, or your garnish slice (or a wet finger if you are secretly using the plastic squeezy lemon to make this, which I quietly but absolutely condone,) rim the edge of your martini glass (or other serving vessel,) and invert your glass into the plate of sugar. Twist to get a nice coating around the rim before turning back over and filling with your delicious beverage.
Float a lemon or twist of peel in the glass, or wedge it on the side like I did.
Enjoy the sweet, tangy pucker.
